Alyssum saxatile 'Gold Ball' (= 'Compactum Goldkugel' ) - BASKET OF GOLD 'GOLD BALL'
Non-native showy spring perennial for edges, dry beds, rock gardens, crevices or dry walls.
6-10" tall and 12-15" wide, lower mounds of gray leaves, smothered by small golden flowers in April/May. Leaves stay evergreen. This plant can be heavy seeder, so if that happens in your garden, we recommend cutting the plants back about 1/3 after the blooming is finished.
Full sun, half shade, requires drained soils (average, sandy, rocky, gritty, gaps in rocks). Average to dry soils.
Deer and rabbit resistant, pollinator friendly (some butterflies, honeybees), drought resistant.
Hardy in zones 4-8/9, prefers cooler climates, in hotter climates prefers some shade during the day or afternoon.
Looks best in drier beds, with rocks, in old wall, troughts, gravel gardens etc. Plant on the edges or front, combine with other drought tolerant plants.
Looks well and meets with spring bulbs like Muscari, Tulips and some Narcissus and early-mid spring perennials like Aubrieta, Iberis, creeping Phloxes, Pulsatilla and dwarf bearded Irises.
Other good perennial companions are for example lower Agastache, Asclepias tuberosa, Achillea, lower Baptisia cultivars, Coreopsis, Dianthus, Delosperma, shorter cultivars of Echinacea, bearded Iris, Kalimeris, Lavandula, Nepeta, Penstemon, Salvia, Verbena canadensis and lower to medium sized grasses or small flowering shrubs or conifers.
Pot size : square 3.5" x 5" deep pot
