Shorter, more compact hybrid of Amsonia hubrichtii (Threadleaf Bluestar). Better resistance to chlorosis, densely branched clean habit, the same excellent orange-yellow fall color as it's parent.

Pot Size: round Proven Winner quart 4.25" x 5" deep
Plant Combinations: For flower beds, naturalistic plantings, deer and rabbit resistant plantings, meadow and pollinator gardens. Goes very well with most of the common perennials, grasses and wildflowers.

The structure is very fine and the whole look regular, so the best combos include plants with more coarse-rough structure, large flowers or with somewhat more natural look. So good combinations can be achieved for example with Alchemilla mollis, Anemone hupehensis (japonica), Chelone, Geranium 'Rozanne', Hemerocallis (daylily), herbaceous Hibiscus, Iris, Leucanthemum, taller Monarda, Paonia, Persicaria, Phlox paniculata and hybrids, Physostegia, Salvia nemorosa, Silphium, Stachys, Tradescantia, bigger-leaved Vernonia or Veronicastrum.

The blue flowers of this Amsonia will nicely contrast with yellow or cream cultivars of Aquilegia, Aquilegia canadensis, yellow Baptisia, yellow Irises, yellow peonies or Zizia.

Suitable grasses include Calamagrostis, Carex,Pennisetum, Molinia or Panicum.

  • A real performer 5

With the blue flowers in spring, the texture of the green leaves in the summer, and the golden color it turns in fall, Blue Star Amsonia is a real performer.
