Boltonia asteroides v. latisquama 'Snowbank' - FALSE ASTER 'SNOWBANK'
Boltonias are great plants for adding color to the garden in the fall. They are related to Asters, and cover themselves with 3/4" aster-like flowers (var. latisquama has bigger flowers than the species).
'Snowbank' is perhaps the most widely grown Boltonia cultivar; it is a selection made by the New England Wild Flower Society, and we still consider it more "wildflower" than highly hybridized perennial. It is an "improved" form with more compact growth (compared to the wild Boltonia asteriodes, which easily reaches 5-6').
'Snowbank' also has more and larger flowers, pretty blue-green foliage and sturdy stems that don't need staking! It makes a great addition to the fall garden and is an awesome cut flower too. It grows in clumps that can expand quickly in good conditions.
