$7.99

Showy and all summer blooming perennial for drier or drained soil.

Usually grows to 1-1.5' of height x 1-2' wide, it's also usually more sprawling than growing upwards. Deep magenta, upward facing cup-shaped flowers in Jun to beginning of August.

Sun and half shade (this species tolerates a bit of shade in comparison to other species), drained soil with average moisture to dry. Drainage is the key to successful growing - gritty, rocky, gravelly or shallow and fast draining soils are the best.

Tap root makes it more difficult to move, so choose the spot wisely. Seeds where happy.

Hardy in zones 5 to 8.

Deer and rabbit resistant, native bees, butterflies and hummingbirds are the main pollinators (offers nectar).

Native to Central USA (Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma) and Iowa, where can be found in open woodlands, rocky slopes, limestone glades, shallower soils (neutral to alkaline).

This plants is suitable for both - conventional (formal) and naturalistic planting. It can be shorter-lived, if the conditions don't match (acceptable drainage). Drier beds, well drained soils, rock gardens, gravel gardens, pollinator gardens, deer resistant gardens, water wise gardens.

Pot size : square 3.5" x 4" deep (and 5" deep)
