Undemaning bellflower, vigorous, drought and drier shade tolerant perennial.
One of the very few longer-lived bellflowers. Stays in clump.
1-1.5' tall and wide clumps, fuzzy grayish heart-shaped leaves, sturdy stems with hanging ivory white flowers (2" x 0.75" bells). Blooms in late spring and early summer, sporadic blooming till early fall - especially if dead headed.
Full sun, half shade, light shade. Average soil that drains naturally well, otherwise drained soils (sandy, gritty, rocky, gravelly soils). Average moisture (medium to medium-moist) to slightly dry soil.
Adaptable plant, that does well half shade or light shade of the woodland edges, close to tree roots.
Hardy in zones 3 to 7.
Deer and rabbit resistant (most likely). Pollinator friendly (honey bees, potentially some butterflies).
Native to eastern Europe, Caucasus and Asia Minor, where it grows in open woodlands, scrubs, cliffs and steep banks. Scientific synonyms are Campanula lamiifolia or Campanula microphylla.
For sunny or half shade garden, woodland edges, lighter and drier shade, in front of shrub groups, sloped gardens or bigger rock garden.
Can be combine with many common perennials or grasses, in sunny bed can be good companions Agastache, Coreopsis, Echinacea, Callirhoe, Hemerocallis, Iris x barbata, Nepeta, Paeonia, shorter Rudbeckia, Salvia nemorosa and medium-sized or smaller grasses. In half shade bed Anemone japonica, Epimedium, Helleborus, Heuchera, Hosta, Iris x cristata, Polygonatum or spring ephemerals etc.
