Culture: full sun, half shade, average soils with average moisture, loamy soils, drained soils (sand, gravel, rocks). Avoid waterlogged soils. Drought tolerant.

Origin: native to Southeastern and Eastern states and part of Midwest - see the USDA distribution map). Naturally occurs on limestone cliffs, rocky hills and barrens.
