Coreopsis x hybrid 'Gilded Lace' - TICKSEED 'GILDED LACE' (4' tall)
EXCELLENT NEW CULTIVAR WITH INCREDIBLE RICH FLORAL DISPLAY FOR 18 WEEKS!
For it's qualities - health, growth rate, ecological value, this is the Coreopsis of the future!
Must have perennial, unique hybrid of two native species - reliable and favorite Coreopsis verticillata (2-3') and very tall Coreopsis tripteris (6-7').
The result is super chic coreopsis 4.5-5' tall x 2-3' wide, with very fine feathery texture of C. verticillata and taller height of C. tinctoria.
Still very attractive for butterflies, bees and birds too! Deer resistant, disease free, no mildew!
Starts flowering in mid June and continues till September. Slowly spreads into clumps (2' over 3 years), full sun, adaptable to many soil types, drained soil, average soil, poor soil, drier clay. Average moisture (medium moist to medium dry).
Hardy in zones 4 to 9.
For sunny borders, pollinator gardens, butterfly garden, naturalistic planting, cottage gardens, public spaces and cut flower garden. Good combination can be with taller grasses (both wild forms and cultivars of Andropogon gerardii, Panicum virgatum, Schizachyrium scoparium, or Calamagrostis acutiflora), silver upright structure of rattlesnake master (Eryngium yuccifolium) or Liatris, Echinops ritro, tall bearded Irises, daylilies (Hemerocallis), purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea), Ohion spiderwort (Tradescantia ohiensis), taller cultivars of stonecrop (Sedum telephium), Yucca or annuals like Verbena bonariensis.
Selection from Mt. Cuba Coreopsis trials 2015 :
"Coreopsis ‘Gilded Lace’ truly impressed us with its floriferous and long-lasting floral display. It was also a great boon to pollinators who were frequently observed visiting this plant. This cultivar was discovered as a chance seedling in the garden of Peter Heus and is likely a hybrid between Coreopsis tripteris and Coreopsis verticillata. ‘Gilded Lace’ is unique for its lacy, fine-textured foliage- something rarely seen on a plant this size. It is also reliably hardy and disease resistant. The only minor complaint about ‘Gilded Lace’ is the tendency for its stems to lean, usually by no more than 30 or 40 degrees, but this is easily overlooked with such an amazing floral display. Large and sturdy neighbor plantings would likely make the leaning a nonissue altogether. ‘Gilded Lace’ is a rhizomatous coreopsis that spreads about 2’ over three years."

Gilded Lace Coreopsis
Planted these last year in a bed with average-poor soil. They flopped early on but flowered in their first year. They shot up this year with significantly more stems than expected and are upright and strong. Highly recommend for adding movement near the back of a bed!
