New hybrid coneflower with compact upright habit, densely branched & floriferous.

'Tres Amigos' offers 3 colors on one plant - flower opens orange, matures to bright red and fully developped flower is burgundy red.

Starts to bloom erlier than other varieties.

Blooming time : May/June to July/August

Size : 18-20" tall x 20-24 " wide

USDA zones : 4 to 9

Culture : full sun, average soil with some drainage (add coarse sand, fine gravel), drained soil, drier clay. The coneflower hybrids do not like acidic soils and winter moisture. Tolerant to shallower soils.

Moisture Needs : medium to medium-dry, dry, tolerant to summer droughts

Origin : Hybrid selected by Darwins Perennials. Sold with full name Echinacea Sombrero® 'Tres Amigos' (part of Sombrero® serie)

Patented variety under PP30,750; US7,982,110. Propagation is prohibited.

Deer/rabbit resistant : yes/yes

Attracts Butterflies or Pollinators : yes, but not that many as wild forms

Attracts Hummingbirds : no

Plant combinations : Best planted in late spring through very early fall, so it can establish before winter. Accent in flower borders, prairie style plantings, public spaces, xeriscape. Great with many native perennials - Agastache, summer blooming Allium, Amsonia, Asclepias, Aster, Baptisia, Calamintha, Callirhoe, Caryopteris, Coreopsis, Dalea, Eryngium, Gaura, most of hardy Geraniums, Heliopsis, Helianthus, Lavandula, Liatris, Limonium, Monarda, Nepeta, Origanum,  Perovskia, Rudbeckia (R. fulgida var. deamii, R. fulgida var. speciosa, R. 'American Gold Rush'), Salvia, Scutellaria incana, Sedum, Solidago, Sisyrinchium, Stachys, Vernonia, Veronica spicata or Veronica incana hybrids. skia, Salvia or grasses like Boutelloua gracilis, Eragrostis spectabilis, Muhlenbergia, Sporobolus heterolepis, Sorghastrum or Panicum.
