Sand love grass is similar to common Purple Love Grass (Eragrostis spectabilis), but is more robust and taller.
Up to 4' tall (usually about 3') x 2-3" wide clumps of fine leaves, purple tinted flowers right above the foliage, flowers in July to August.
Full sun, mostly sun, medium moist to dry soils preferably sandy or sandy loams, but since it naturally occurs in prairies, open woods, rocky slopes and roadsides, it will grow in many soil types that are somewhat drained and drier.
Tolerant to heat, humidity and drought.
Hardy in zones 5-9, deer ad rabbit resistant. native grass to central USA and part of Midwest, see the USDA distribution map.
The best planted in groups or masses and letting in naturalize - self seed in naturalistic plantings, prairie or meadow plantings on drained or dry soils.
