Eupatorium rugosum 'Chocolate' - SNAKEROOT 'CHOCOLATE'

Product Code: EUP-RUG-CHOCOL
Shipping: Calculated at Checkout
$8.99

Eupatorium rugosum 'Chocolate' is an exclusive introduction from the Mt. Cuba Center in Greenville, Delaware and the perfect choice for those who find the wild parent form (E. rugosum, or Ageratina altissima) too common or "weedy." 'Chocolate' offers a bushy look overall, with very dark, chocolate brown-red glossy leaves and stems, and flowers very late in the season. The chocolate color is darkest in first half of the season and while the plant is sprouting, and fades with the summer heat.

This nativar shares the same needs as its parent plant: sun, half shade (this Eupatorium is one of the most shade-tolerant of all the Eupatoriums). Flowers very late, blooming for the majority of the fall. Although this is nativar, it is still a good pollinator plant and provides an important late source of nectar and pollen for insects. Deer and rabbit resistant, adaptable, tolerant to clay and some drought too.

Beautiful in conventional flower beds or naturalistic plantings, pollinator gardens or butterfly gardens.

'Chocolate' arrived in great shape. Unfortunately, I shuffled the greenhouse a bit and didn't get this one in the ground for a while. Turns out this is a tough plant that bounces back beautifully. He's looking great and growing well among my white turtleheads, variegated obedient plants, Queen Vic cardinal flowers, and variegated Japanese iris in that tricky damp-but-sunny spot in the yard.

Plants arrived healthy and robust. Superior eco-friendly packaging. Love year-round shipping! Extensive availability of native plant species! Since discovering them a little over a year ago, US Perennials has become a go-to native plant source for our home habitat garden. Thank you so much!!
