Geranium x cantabrigiense 'Biokovo' - HARDY GERANIUM 'BIOKOVO'

Product Code: GER-CAN-BIOKOV
Shipping: Calculated at Checkout
$8.99

Low ground covering perennial for edges in full sun or half shade.

Height of 6-10" x 12" width and slowly spreading.

Semi-evergreen fragrant leaves (spicy orange), white flowers tinged with pink and with pink stamesn in May.

Geranium x cantabrigiense is sterile hybrid of two European species - Geranium macrorrhizum and Geranium dalmaticum (developed in 1974 by Dr. Helen Kiefer of the Cambridge University Botanic Garden in Cambridge, England). But 'Biokovo' is hybrid discovered in nature in Biokovo Mountains in Croatia (previous Yugoslavia).

Best in half-sun, half shade, in cooler areas in full sun too. Average soil, with some organic matter and average moisture (medium, medium-dry). To some degree tolerates drier to dry shade.

The best use is as edging low plant in flower border, as groundcover or substitute of the lawn in half shade, bigger containers, filler among a bit taller plants or rock gardens. Looks good with rocks.

No serious diseases or pests bother this quite tough plant. Deer and rabbit resistant plant, hardy in zones 5 to 8.

Mildly attracts some butterflies and honey bees.

Good companions in sunny garden can be Asclepias tuberosa, Calamintha, Coreopsis, shorter cultivars of Hemerocallis, bearded Iris, Nepeta, Paeonia, Salvia nemorosa (S. x sylvestris), Sedum, Stachys, shorter cultivars of Agastache, Amsonia, Echinacea, Solidago and smaller to medium sized grasses.

But can be used in half shade with Chrysogonum, Gillenia, Helleborus, Heuchera, Hypericum, Waldsteinia, and some sedges (Carex).
