Large perennial with 1'+ long leaves, and daisy-like flowers arranged along the stems.

Usually 6' tall x 2-3' wide. Orange-yellow flowers with thinner petals in June-July and sporadic blooming till September.

Vertical structure and leaves persist till winter months and are ornamental too.

Full sun, average soil with average moisture. Optimal conditions are loamy soil, moderately fertile to fertile, with medium-moist to medium moisture. This elecampane is also herb and has anti-inflammatory, carminative, diuretic, and antiseptic properties, it can treat chronic bronchitis and rheumatism and dried roots lost of appetite or stomach troubles.

Plants are drought tolerant and will adapt to any soil, but they will be shorter and less showy. Clay tolerant, but don't plant into waterlogged soil.

Originates in Himalaya region, from Xinjiang (Northwest China) to Afghanistan, Kashmir, Nepal and Pakistan.

Cultivars 'Sonnespeer' can be translated as 'Sunspear' was introduced by Jelitto Seeds in 1992 as selection with bigger flower and good vertical growth.

Hardy in zones 4 to 9. Tolerates heat.

Deer and rabbit resistant. Honeybees are the main pollinators.

Best as a background plant, surrounded by a bit shorter plants that support the majestic looks. Combine with perennials with similar needs like Amsonia, Asters, Baptisia, Echinacea purpurea and hybrids, Eupatorium, tall Phloxes, Physostegia, Rudbeckia, Sanguisorba, tall Veronica, Veronicastrum, Vernonia and taller grasses like Andropogon gerardii (and cultivars), Panicum, Sorghastrum nutans (and cultivars), Schizachyrium scoparium or Pennisetum (where not invasive).
