Iris virginica var. shrevei - SOUTHERN BLUE FLAG IRIS
Also called Shreve's Iris, this native bog iris has violet-blue flowers with yellow-white crests in midsummer. The fragrant blooms attract pollinators and can be used as a good cut flower. Slowly spreads to form colonies. Deer and rabbit resistant plant.
This is a swamp Iris, but it will grow well in your yard in average medium-moist soil. Ideally, the soil should be permanently moist (for the majority of the season), but this is a tough plant, so some summer drought is tolerated, as well as seasonal spring flooding. Var. shrevei is more adaptable and grows better in garden conditions than the species (I. virginica).
A nice plant for flower beds with moist soil, water gardens, along streams, ponds, swamps, other bodies of water, periodically flooded areas, and low moist depressions.
