
Liatris scariosa - EASTERN BLAZING STAR
Monarch favorite perennial with button-shaped flowers arranged in spikes in late summer and early fall.
2-4' tall x 1-2' wide (bigger in rich soils, where it may need staking).
Full sun, half sun, average soil with average (medium) moisture to drier soils. It prefers drained or drier soils (rocky, gritty, sandy, even shallower soils).
Flower late in the season - August-September, with pink-reddish blooms. Flower attract many primarily butterflies and skippers and Monarch butterflies. Host plant for moths (Bleeding Flower Moth, Glorious Flower Moth, Blazingstar Borer Moth, Liatris Borer Moth). Can attract hummingbirds too.

Hardy in zones 3-8, mammals graze on leaves, corms can be occasionally eaten by voles.
