Warm season grass with dark stems, dark flowers, strong and sturdy.
Does well in hotter and humid climate of Midwest, but the darker color might be the deepest in a bit cooler areas.
Size : 6-6.5' tall with flowers (leaves are 3' tall) x 1.5-2' wide clumps
Blooming time : July, August, September, November

Culture : full sun (with enough moisture), half shade up to light shade, adaptable to soil types - average soils that don't dry out too much (so better heavier soils).
Moisture Needs : medium-wet, medium-moist, medium (average)
Origin : Molinia arundinacea originates in Europe. 'Dark Beauty' was discovered by Piet Oudolf in his famous Hummelo garden. Was introduced in 2009 and patented under PP28491 (EU60036). Most likely one of the parents is Molinia litoralis ‘Transparent’.

Attracts Hummingbirds : no, but attracts small song birds
Attracts pollinators : no

Plant combinations : Long-lived and trouble free grass, when the growing conditions fit. Best planted in small group or as single accent. Can be combined with many common perennials, good companions can be for example Aster, Boltonia, Chelone, Echinacea, Helianthus, Heliopsis, Hemerocallis, Iris, Persicaria, Physostegia, Rudbeckia, Sanquisorba, Thalictrum, with more shade Hosta, Primula.
