Molinia caerulea 'Poul Pederson' - MOOR GRASS 'POUL PEDERSON'
Compact, bushy selection made by famous garden designer Piet Oudolf, named after Danish nursery man.
Cool season grass, suitable only for cooler areas, northern and northeastern states. Avoid hot and dry climate.
'Poul Peterson' Moor Grass gained 4 out of 4 stars in Chicago Botanic gardens trials in 2018.
2-3' tall x 1.5-2' wide, tight vase-shaped clumps, leaves stays at the base only. Small purple flowers from mid summer till late fall. The flowering stems turn yellow and coppery-yellow with the early fall.
Full sun in cool areas, half shade up to light shade, adaptable to soil types - average soils that don't dry out. Preferably little bit moist or at least average moisture. Molinia caerulea doesn't like droughts - in dry periods watering is needed!
Hardy in zones 4 to 9, very hardy grass, originates in European marshes (areas with cooler and moist soils).
Deer and rabbit resistant.
Long-lived and trouble free grass, when the growing conditions fit. We recommend the use only in the cooler areas (in garden conditions of southern Indiana it doesn't perform as well as in Chicago area).
Best planted in masses or small groups. Can be combined with many common perennials, good companions can be for example Aster, Chelone, Echinacea, Persicaria, Physostegia, Sanquisorba, Thalictrum, with more shade Hosta, Primula.
Favorite plant of Roy Diblik (Northwind nursery, Wisconsin) or Adam Woodruff (Adam Woodruff Garden Design, Massachusetts). Can be seen in Lurie Garden in Chicago too.
Pot size : square 3.5" x 4" deep perennial pot
