Monarda 'Native Son' - BEEBALM 'NATIVE SON'

Product Code: MON-X-NATSON
Shipping: Calculated at Checkout
$8.99

Very dark flowering cultivar with dark stems, darker leaves and dark bracts. Shorter, stays in clump.

This plant originates at Intrinsic Perennial Gardens (IL), but the breeder left this plant for sensitivity to mildew...anyway, we managed to bring one plant from Roy Diblik - Northwind Nursery, Wisconsin and propagated it here. And surprise, no mildew here!

Due to smaller size and earlier flowering it's most likely cultivar of Monarda fistulosa var. menthifolia.

2.5-2.75' tall x 1-1.5' wide clumps, wiry and a bit loose stems, darker hairy tips and foliage. Blooms from mid June for about 2-3 weeks.

Full sun, half sun are the best (clumps tend to open, if they don;t get enough sun). Average soil = medium to medium-dry.

Expected hardiness zone 4 to 8.

Attracts butterflies, bumblebees and some other native bees. Deer and rabbit resistant

For sunny border, can be combined with many commons perennials. Due to the darker foliage is a bit more interesting during the non-flowering part of the season. Ornamental seedheads.

Pot size : square 3.5" x 4" deep pots
