Nepeta kubanica 'Neptune' - KUBAN CATMINT 'NEPTUNE'
New catmint, recommended and awarded. Long bloomer with aromatic leaves, so proven to be deer and rabbit resistant.
This patented cultivar (under "technical name" and number 'Bokratune' PP29556) arrives from Nepeta kubanica - species of catmint with larger leaves and flowers, that naturally occurs in Kuban Peninsula in Caucasus Mountains in Russia.
Very compact and dense mounds, 12" tall and wide, blue-mauve from June to September (but with the peak in full summer, deadheading supports richer blooming).
Full sun, half shade, as the large fresh green leaves tell, this plant likes some moisture, so medium (average) to medium-moist soil, that drain well (so don't plant in waterlogged soils).
Once established, 'Neptune' tolerates some droughts, but in longer term heat and drought will appreciate some deeper watering.
Deer and rabbit resistant, fairly resistant to diseases and pests, but still pollinator friendly -attracts hummingbirds, bees and butterflies.
Hardy in zones 5 to 9.
'Neptune' was selected from thousands of seedlings by Dutch breeder Kees Jan Kraan (selecting started in 2011) and introduced by Concept Plants.
In 2017/2018 won Silver Medal at Plantarium (Horticultural Exhibition), in 2019 HTA New Plant Awards and recently was awarded in 2020 as highly recommended plant by ISU (Internationale Stauden Union, International/German Perennial Association).
Looks great on the edges of flower beds, bigger containers, on patios etc. Can be combined with many common perennials in sunny or half shade border.
Pot size : square 3.5" x 5" deep pot
