$6.99

Easy-to-grow perennial with large (3"), yellow, slightly fragrant flowers that bloom for the entire summer.

This native wildflower forms low mounds, and with age will create wider ground-covering or trailing clumps. Flowers from May to August with the peak in early summer. Ornamental leaves, often reddish stems, and the flowers are followed by big ornamental seed pods that can be used in dried flower arrangements.

Full sun is ideal, and although Missouri Evening  Primrose will tolerate any soil, it does enjoy somewhat drained soils. Due to its mounding/trailing shape, it is best in the front of the border or on the edge of raised beds or rock gardens. Looks very good with rocks or gravel. Also effective in wild gardens, cottage gardens, dry meadows or low dry prairie style plantings, low maintenance plantings, xeriscapes, or native plant gardens.

Blooming Time: May - August
Size: 0.5-0.75' tall x 1.5' wide (can be wider with age)
USDA Zones: 3 to 7
Culture: full sun, any soil - prefers some drainage (clay, dry, rocky, gravelly, shallow soils, infertile soils)
Moisture Needs: dry to medium
Origin: native to the Southern and central United States (USDA distribution map)
Deer/Rabbit Resistant: yes / yes
Attracts Butterflies or Pollinators: yes / yes, flowers attract sphinx moths and small native bees
Attracts Hummingbirds: no
Pot Size: square 3.5" x 4" deep perennial pot
Plant Combinations: The best combinations are with blue, purple blue or pink-purple flowering perennials with slender and upright stems. Nice combos include Allium schoenoprassum, Boltonia 'Jim Crocket', hardy Geraniums, Liriope, taller Nepeta (e.x. N. faasenii 'Six Hills Giant'), Penstemons, Salvia nemorosa and Salvia x sylvestris hybrids, Stachys 'Hummelo' Tradescantia ohiensis, Veronica spicata or hybrids. Also effective in combination of upright gray leaves of Yucca or bearded irises and many medium to bigger grasses.
