Switch Grass 'Northwind' is strictly upright, very narrow vase-shaped grass with bluish-green leaves.

Perennial Plant of the Year in 2014(awarded by the Perennial Plant Association), for it's excellent garden performance and multiply season interest, adaptability to different climates and good health. Wonderful introduction of famous plantsman Roy Diblik, from Northwind nursery in Wisconsin.

Narrow, not opening clumps 4.5' tall (5.5-6' with flowers), 2'-2.5' wide, starts flowering in July and seedheads stay ornamental till February, yellow fall color.

Easy to grow nativar - full sun, mostly sun, average soil, medium moist to medium-dry. Tolerates moist soil and drought too!

For public spaces, private garden, modern minimalistic plantings, erosion control, rain garden, naturalistic planting and any sunny flower bed.

Goes really well with many taller native perennials or nativar like Aster, Boltonia, Hibiscus, Helianthus, Helenium, Heliopsis, Phlox, Physostegia, Rudbeckia and many others. Well behaved and lovely grass. Low maintenance plant - simply cut it back in prespring.

Hardiness zones 5-9. Deer, rabbit resistant, black walnut and air pollution tolerant.
