Phemeranthus calycinus - LARGE-FLOWERED FAMEFLOWER
Also called rock pink, small succulent perennial, native to Central southern United States (see the detail distribution on USDA map.)
Usually 6-8" tall x 2-4" wide, 1" purple-pink flowers open around noon and stay open till mid afternoon, succulent needle-like leaves. Blooms in July for about a month, but sometimes can bloom much longer.
Full sun, for well drained soils, medium-dry to dry. Rocky, sandy, gravelly soils, medium-dry to dry.
Other scientific name is Talinum calycinum. Hardy in zones 5 to 9.
Cute little plant for rock gardens, crevices, troughs or front of drained flower bed. Not many information is known about pollinators, but some some native bees were observed on the flowers.
