Seed strain with yellow, golden, orange, red and dark red flowers. Variable.

8-10" tall, rosettes of fresh green leaves, clusters of flowers March/April to early May.

Half shade, dappled shade, lighter shade, average soil to organic rich soil, loam, drained soils with average moisture (medium) to medium-dry.Appreciates some leaf mulch or organic mulch.

Tolerates heat and humidity and is moderately tolerant to summer droughts.

Hardy in zones 4 to 8.

Black walnut tolerant, deer and rabbit resistant plant. Attracts butterflies.

Easy to grow woodland edge perennial, edging plant, for shade or half shade garden, shade parts of rock gardens or bigger containers. Cute spring cut flower.

Combine with aquilegia, Asarum, Brunnera, Dicentra, Disporum, Epimedium, Helleborus, Hepatica, Heuchera, Hosta, Lathrus vernus, Omphalodes, Polygonatum, Uvularia and spring ephemerals like Jeffersonia, Mertensia, Sanguinaria,Trillium,... grasses like carex and Hakonecloa. Seeds around where happy.
