Very showy perennial, not common and underused in horticulture. Wild form grows only in a few scattered locations in the Southeastern, Midwest and Central USA. Hardy in zones 5 to 8.

'Sundance' is a seed strain cultivar, introduced by German seed company Jelitto in 2008. Close to 4' tall and 2-2.5' wide, slender upright look, big parasol shaped yellow flowers contrast with deep green foliage. Long flowering, but late season from August to September. Clump forming, but it can self-seed in good conditions.

Full sun, drained soils with average moisture, tolerates hot and humid summers, drought and a somewhat wide range of soil. High tolerance to salty soils. Deer resistant plant, attracts pollinator, native bees, butterflies, seeds are consumed by small birds.

Vigorous late-blooming nativar, excellent addition to drier borders, naturalized areas, wildflower meadows, prairies, cottage gardens, pollinator gardens, butterfly gardens, bird gardens or low maintenance gardens.
