Salvia nemorosa 'Rose Marvel' - MEADOW SAGE 'ROSE MARVEL' (compact, large-flowered and long blooming)
Compact and blooming for very long season. The Marvel series offers the largest flowers of Meadow Sage hybrids! Flowers the whole season without deadheading.
Vibrant pink flowers, darker purple calyxes. Flowers arranged in wider and shorter spikes. Upright mounding habit.
Blooming Time: from spring to late summer or early fall, especially if deadheaded and occasionally watered deeply and fertilized a bit
Size: 14-16" tall and 12-14" wide
USDA Zones: 4 to 9
Culture: full sun, mostly sun. Average soils, moderately fertile to fertile, drained soils, drier soils. Adaptable. Grows fairly well in heavier soils and clay (avoid waterlogged soils). Drought, heat and air-pollution tolerant plant makes it great candidate for urban landscaping.
Moisture Needs: average (medium) to drier (medium-dry)
Origin: Meadow sage is usually hybrid, also mentioned as Salvia x sylvestris = hybrids of two European species - S. nemorosa and Salvia pratensis. This cultivar is patented underCPBR5343; EU PBR43712; PP27,018 and can't be propagated without permission. Bred by Darwin Perennials.
Deer/Rabbit Resistant: yes / yes (due to it's aromatic leaves)
Attracts Butterflies or Pollinators: yes/yes (including honeybees)
Attracts Hummingbirds: no (some sources say yes, but we can't confirm it yet)
Plant Combinations: universal plant that looks well in any sunny border, in private or public spaces, cottage gardens, pollinator gardens, low maintenance or no irrigation plantings. Combine with shorter to medium tall grasses and with perennials like shorter Amsonia, shorter Baptisia, Asclepias tuberosa or A. verticillata, Eryngium, Coreopsis, shorter cultivars of Echinacea, Gaillardia, Gaura, Geranium sanquineum cultivars, Perovskia, Rudbeckia, Nepeta, Sedum, roses or daylilies. Looks well with short groundcovering plants. Also goes well with plants with more moisture needs like tall phloxes (chose the shorter cultivars), hardy Geranium hybrids, Lilium or shorter cultivars of Eupatorium.
Pot size: square 3.5" x 4" deep perennial pot

Salvia nemorosa ‘Rose Marvel’
I have had this variety in my garden of the last two years and it is wonderful! It has been hard to find and I jumped at the chance when it spotted it on your site. This is truly worthy of the description: compact, large-flowers and long blooming. Needs full sun, good drainage and periodic deadheading. Mine bloomed all summer in 2023 and still going into Fall. Since deer avoid it for the most part, this has become one of my favorite perennials. Don’t hesitate to try it in your garden. I have also purchased the ‘Blue Marvel’ and hope that it performs just as well.
