Salvia rosmarinus 'Arp' - Rosmarinus officinalis 'Arp' - ROSEMARY 'ARP' (more hardy variety)
Ornamental and edible with upright growth and more gray leaves than typical rosemary. But what's most exciting, is that it's very hardy and reportedly survived zone 6 winters with protection!
Drought, heat and humidity tolerant, and pollinator friendly (bees and butterflies).
Blooming Time: 3-4' tall and wide
USDA Zones: 6 to 10
Culture: full sun, mostly sun, half shade, average soils, drained soils. Avoid waterlogged soils - wet and heavy soils are fatal in the winter.
Moisture Needs: average to drier or dry.
Origin: Discovered growing in Arp, Texas by Madelene Hill in 1972. Rosemary is a subshrub native to the Mediterannean mountains.
Black Walnut Tolerant: yes
Deer/Rabbit Resistant: yes / yes
Attracts Butterflies or Pollinators: some butterflies / honeybees
Attracts Hummingbirds: no
Pot Size: square 3.5" x 4" deep perennial pot
Plant Combinations: Best in sunny flower beds, along patios or paths, in sheltered corners, in front of southern walls and south facing retaining walls, water-wise plantings, herb gardens, bigger rock gardens, bigger containers or pollinator gardens.
Looks better if combined with more rough structures (big leaves, grassy leaves, bigger or daisy-like flowers or spikes). Best if combined with other aromatic plants, small shrubs and grasses.
