Drought tolerant native wildflower for sunny or half shade garden.
Usually about 2' tall x 1.5' wide (can get taller in optimum conditions). Beautiful, pure white 3/4" in diameter, frilled flowers on unbranched stems from June to July (and sporadically even later on). Opposite leaves nicely arranged in whorls of four.
Best in full sun or half shade, in average, somewhat drained or drier soils. Medium moisture (average), medium-dry to dry soils. Clay tolerant.
Native wildflower to central USA and the whole eastern part of USA, see the USDA distribution map.
It occurs in clearings in drier woods, slopes and openings. Hardy in zones 5-8.
Deer and rabbit resistant, even the deer may snip off the flowering stems occasionally (but it's not palatable for them). The main pollinators are moths and a bit less bumble bees.Host plant for caterpillars of several moths.
Smaller perennial for scattered planting in naturalistic design, pollinator garden or woodland edge or half shade woodland garden. Plants may self-seed some, and fill the gaps in plantings, but never aggressively.
Pot size : square 3.5" x 4" deep perennial pot
