Solidago rigida ssp. humilis 'Golden Rocket' - DWARF STIFF GOLDENROD 'GOLDEN ROCKET'
Stiff Goldenrod 'Golden Rocket' is dwarf seed selection made by German company Jelitto. 'Golden Rocket' grows to 1.75' tall x 1' wide. It looks more compact, dense than the wild form, but it keeps all the characteristic of the species - gray leaves, flat inflorescenses, vertical structure, doesn't flop and more "ornamental" look than other goldenrods.
It doesn't have any special needs, full sun, half shade, average soil to clay soil, average moisture. It is also drought tolerant. Flowers in August to September.
Wild S. rigida is native to Eastern and northeastern United, see the USDA distribution map. Occurs in tall prairies, glades, open woods, savannas, meadows. Hardy in zones 3 to 9.
It is also excellent pollinator perennial for native bees, wasps, butterflies including monarchs, moths, beetles and pollinating flies (offers both nectar and pollen). Seed are eaten by Eastern Goldfinch, can be occasionally nibbled by the deer and other herbivores.
Goes well with many sun loving perennials, meet in bloom with fall Asters and Panicum virgatum. Due to it's shorter habit is great for the front in the middle of the flower beds or rock gardens.
Pot size : deep 3.5" x 5"square pot
