Stachys macrantha - BIG BETONY

No reviews yet
Product Code: STA-MAC-X
Shipping: Calculated at Checkout
$9.99

Tough, clump forming and ground covering perennial. Also known as Stachys grandiflora.

It somehow reminds of famous Stachys 'Hummelo', but is lot more robust - with rather big wrinkled leaves and big pink-purple flowers on elongated stems. Not very common in USA, native to Caucasus, this plant is worth growing for it's dense ground covering habit and early flowering season.

Size 1-1.5' tall and wide, plants stay more in clumps, but in time they grow a little bit wider and won't let any weed to grow through. Flowers May to June, hardy in zones 4-8. best for sunny location, average soils, preferably somewhat drained (not waterlogged), with average moisture.

Big betony is deer resistant, black walnut tolerant and it will handle some little shading too and drought too. Good cut flower, attractive to bees.

Excellent edging plant in borders, edges of woodland gardens, some naturalizing. It looks very good with Nepeta, hardy Geraniums, Hemerocallis (daylily), Peonia (peony), grasses or actually any sun loving perennial.

Pot Size : square 3.5" x 5" deep pot
