Product Code: STY-DIP-X

$6.99

Truly the star spring perennial! Big four-petal yellow flowers (1-2" in diameter) and hairy gray-green lobated leaves, what a great combo! This wildflower blooms alongside Polemonium reptans and Mertensia virginica, which creates a marvelous blue-yellow contrast. This perennial is excellent in newly planted woodland landscapes because it will freely self-seed and fill all the gaps (similar to Aquilegia canadensis).

Plant it in woodland gardens, under big trees, in pollinator gardens, rock gardens or let it naturalize. In masses it's a good ground cover. Seeds are spread by ants (myrmecochory). Chipmunks and woodland mice eat the seeds, and it provides great support for pollinators.

Blooming Time: April- May
Size: 1-1.5’ high x 1’ wide
USDA Zones: 4 to 8
Culture: half shade, dappled shade, shade, best if grown in rich loamy soil, moist, but drained soil, clay soils require improvement with coarse sand/gravel and compost. Grows well in alkaline, neutral to acidic soils. Tolerates drought, but longer term drought can damage the leaves or cause the plant will go dormant. Should grow well in average garden soil (or improved with some organic material).
Moisture Needs: medium-dry, medium, medium-moist
Origin: native wildflower to Eastern North America in Ontario and from Pennsylvania, Virginia, Tennessee, northern Georgia and northern Alabama west to Illinois, Missouri and Arkansas. Can be found in moist deciduous woods, rich ravines, calcareous bluffs, rocky stream banks, and rocky foothills.
Deer/Rabbit Resistant: yes/yes
Attracts Butterflies or Pollinators: provide pollen to native bees, flies, butterflies and beetles.
Attracts Hummingbirds: no
Pot Size: 3.5" x 4" perennial pot (1.22 pt/580 ml)
