Old-fashioned cut flower, shorter-lived perennial for drained soils. 

Finely divided aromatic basal leaves repel insects (and deer). Wiry stems with bigger daisy flowers (soft pink with large yellow center).

Non-aggressive plant, well behaved plant.

 

Size : 2-2.5' of height x 1-1.5' of width

Blooming time : early to mid summer

USDA zones :  3 to 7, suitable for cooler area, or areas with cooler summer temps

Culture : sun, half sun, half shade (in hotter areas), average soil, loam (but doesn't need too much nutrient). Some drainage is beneficial. We successfully grow it in our sand bed (with fairly lean alkaline sand).

Moisture Needs : medium-moist, medium-dry, tolerates droughts

Origin : native of Eastern Europe to Central Asia and Iran

Deer/rabbit resistant : yes/yes

Attracts Hummingbirds : no

Attracts pollinators : yes - various bees and some butterflies

Pot Size : square 3.5" x 4" deep perennial pot

Plant combinations : Best for drier flower bed with well drained soils and for cut flower garden, rock garden, cottage garden, herb garden.

Combine with plants with similar needs - Asclepias tuberosa, Coreopsis, Clinopodium, Dalea, Echinacea, Euphorbia, Gaura, Geranium sanquineum, Kniphofia, Monarda, Nepeta, Lavandula, Salvia, Satureja, smaller Solidago, Verbena and medium sized-grasses like Eragrostis, shorter to medium-sized cultivars of Panicum, Koleria, Muhlenbergia, Sesleria, Schizachyrium, Sporobolus or Pennisetum - where not invasive.
