Old-fashioned cut flower, shorter-lived perennial for drained soils. 

Usually grows to 2-2.5' of height x 1-1.5' of width. Finely divided, strongly aromatic basal leaves repel insects (and deer), wiry stems with bigger daisy flowers (reddish-purple with large yellow center).

Flowers in early to mid summers.

Full sun to half shade, average to well drained soils with average moisture to dry. The best in well drained soils - sandy, gritty or gravelly soils.

Hardy in zones 3-7. Suitable for cooler areas - areas with a bit cooler summers and cooler summer night temperatures.

Native to western and central Asia and Caucasus.

Deer and rabbit resistant. Attracts some butterflies.

Non-aggressive plant. Best for drier flower bed with well drained soils and for cut flower garden, rock garden, cottage garden, herb garden.

Combine with plants with similar needs - Asclepias tuberosa, Clinopodium, Dalea, Echinacea, Geranium sanquineum, Monarda, Nepeta, Lavandula, Satureja and medium sized-grasses.
