Slender and clump-forming perennial with ornamental bluish-green leaves and clouds of lavender-purple flowers.
Grows about 5' tall x 2' wide, strictly upright, nice textural plant, flowers in June/July to August with small flowers arranged in up to 3' wide clouds.
This plant is native in Japan, offers very unique structure and effect, naturalistic look, is easy to grow, doesn't spread (some self-seeding occurs in small amount, but only in ideal conditions). Best in dappled sun or half shade, medium moist to moist soil, with some organic compounds, average garden soil, loam. Hardy in zones 4 to 7.
Prefers cooler spot in a garden (some little shade during the day is the solution). Great perennial for borders, background of the flower bed, for moist cottage garden, rain garden, meadow garden, woodland edges.
Great combinations can be achieved with taller perennials like Actaea (Cimicifuga), Delphinium exaltatum (or even cultural hybrids), Echinacea purpurea (tall cultivars), tall Hemerocallis (H. citrina, H. 'Autumn Minaret'), Lilium, Rudbeckia, Sanguisorba, Veronicastrum or bigger grasses like Panicum.
Very good combo in half shade is with bigger-leaved or large-leaved Hosta.

The Meadow Rue arrived in great shape though a tad bit early. The daytime temps are fine but overnight temps are still in the low to mid 40’s. Acclimating them until first week of May. I love this type of meadow rue. Looks so very pretty in vases alone and mixed in with other summer flowers.
