Verbascum chaixii 'Wedding Candles' - MULLEIN 'WEDDING CANDLES'
Vertical perennial for sunny garden and drained soil.
Usually 3.5-4' tall x 1.5-2' wide. Gray-green rosettes of basal leaves, upright candelabra branching stem. Smaller cream white flowers with violet-red centers. Blooms in June and July.
Full sun, average moist to dry soil, somewhat drained, moderately fertile. Naturally well draining clay, also sandy, gritty or rocky soils.
Attracts butterflies and honeybees. Deer and rabbit resistant plant.
Hardy in zones 4/5 to 10. Native to Southern Europe.
Good cut flower. For sunny garden, drier garden, butterfly garden. Can be combined with many common perennial like Agastache, Amsonia, Allium 'Summer Beauty' and similar summer blooming Alliums, Aster, Baptisia, bearded Iris, Euphorbia, Eryngium, Coreopsis, Chrysanthemum, Echinacea, Gaura, Geranium, Hemerocallis (daylily), Heliopsis, Heuchera, Hypericum, Monarda, Nepeta, Perovskia, Phlomis, Platycodon, Rudbeckia, Salvia nemorosa hybrids, taller Sedum, Solidago, Stachys, Stokesia, Veronica spicata hybrids.
